Thomas Wicklund
1) Why did you choose CASA as a place to mentor for FRC?
My daughter is a member of the team and asked me to help.
2) Did you have somebody in your educational world that helped you decide your career?
Not really. Several teachers encouraged me by giving me the freedom to pursue my interested, but I was always drawn to science and technology.
3) What motivates you as an individual to come and mentor future engineers while working full time?
Volunteering as a mentor allows me to help students learn about engineering and technology. The kids go through all the stages of a real project, designing, building, and testing the robot under a deadline.
4) Tell us about yourself. Title of your job, location and how long, hobbies and etc.
I am a Principal Software Engineer at Dot Hill Systems in Longmont. I have worked there seven years. Prior to Dot Hill I worked for several other companies including IBM, Storage Technology, Fujitsu, and (long ago) Control Data. Outside of work most of my time is taken up with family. I also enjoy reading and do some occasional photography.
