CASA MESA, US FIRST Robotics Team 2261

Paul Hendershott

1) Why did you choose CASA as a place to mentor for FRC?

Because at CASA I think can have a greater positive impact to the student than other FIRST teams.

2) Did you have somebody in your educational world that helped you decide your career?

Yes.  My high school math teacher had the greatest influence on my decision to pursue engineering.  He tried to push all of his better math students into engineering.  Prior to that, my interest was architecture.  I also had science teachers in middle school and high school who influenced my interest in science and technology.

3) What motivates you as an individual to come and mentor future engineers while working full time?

I enjoy working with the students and I like the competitiveness of  FIRST.  When I was young many adults helped me pursue my interest (designing and building things) and this an opportunity for me to give some of that back.

4) Tell us about yourself. Title of your job, location and how long, hobbies and etc.

I work at Ball Aerospace in Boulder , Co.  My job title is “staff consultant” in the mechanical engineering department.  I’ve worked for Ball for 25 years.  Hobbies: gardening, boating, fishing, furniture making and refinishing, distance running, making and repairing just about anything, motorcycling, hunting, FIRST robotics, bee keeping.
